Six Lenasia-Secondary pupils to be suspended for attacking a learner

Six Lenasia South Secondary School pupils to be suspended for brutally attacking a learner in the middle of the road with oncoming traffic on Tuesday. This follows a video footage which portrayed a learner being brutally attacked by other learners. The Gauteng Education MEC, Panyaza Lesufi visited the school on Wednesday. 

The MEC visit comes after he was informed about the incident which took place after school on a road in front of the school. The MEC has condemned the ill-discipline displayed by a group of learners attacking a learner in the middle of the road with oncoming traffic.

“What I witnessed on that video is totally unacceptable and cannot be tolerated. There is no amount of anger that can justify any form of violence in our schools. We denounce all acts of ill-discipline that may compel learners to behave violently,” 

The MEC said that their officials has revealed that six learners from different grades were involved and will be suspended.

“Our officials revealed that the scuffle, which was necessitated by conflict, involved six (6) learners, three (3) Grade 12 learners, two (2) Grade 11 learners and one (1) Grade 8 learner. All identified learners will be suspended for either being an instigator, perpetrator, accomplice or victim. Subsequently, a disciplinary hearing will be conducted in due course,”

MEC Lesufi denounces the ill-discipline displayed by these learners in the strongest possible sense. He instructed the Johannesburg South District to support the school inmanaging this matter. The police are also investigating circumstances surround this incident.

Lenasia South SAPS, spokesperson, Sergeant Khalipha Mvula has confirmed that two learners have been detainedat the Walter Sisulu Juvenile Prison.

“We can confirm that the two suspects aged 16 and 17, have been detained for assault at the Walter Sisulu Juvenile Prison. We, however, cannot rule out the possible arrest of other suspects.”
