There’s a new sheriff in town

Moroka Police Station has a new Station Commander, Sevha Reckson Shubani started his new position this month and he is planning to do a clean-up operation that will put the Moroka police station in a positive light.

Gauteng News spoke to the new Station Commander and he elaborated on his short term plans for the station, “We have started with the festive season operation which begun from the beginning of October until 31st January 2020.

“Through this operation we will be able to patrol throughout the areas that are under our jurisdiction and we will be able to monitor our communities and curb crime acts,” said Station Commander Shubani.

The Festive Operation will be a platform whereby police officers patrol around the Moroka sector considering the high trio-crimes that are occurring in Gauteng and the scourge of gender based violence. However, the police station has been faced with numerous challenges as they have been caught in corruption allegations regarding the CPF executive, and when the Commander was asked about corruption associated with the station he advised the case is currently under investigation and he couldn’t comment further.

“We are also planning to thoroughly deal with the scourge of gender based violence in our townships through having a one on one session with community members, which we will be starting very soon and we will  be encouraging community members to report and help fight against the killing of women and children,” added Commander Shubani.

Police officers will be responding to crime within 10minutes and should residents experience delay from the police station, they have a right to report to the station Commander. Shubani informed Gauteng News that he will be visiting hostels and engaging with the Nduna’s in regards to curbing crime and reducing the crime rates. Furthermore, the Station Commander advised that community members must speak up and report any crime activities that might be taking place and work together with the Moroka Police to fight against crime and gender based violence.
