Tshwane conclude process to prevent Centurion land invasion

The City of Tshwane Human Settlement Department has reached a conclusion of the eviction and relocation process of illegal land invaders who had occupied private land near SuperSport Park in Centurion.

The city and private land owner successfully implemented the eviction order in December last year, removing the illegal land invaders from the land.

The City’s MMC for Human Settlement, Abel Tau said part of the eviction order compelled the city to provide six months temporary accommodation for the occupiers.

“In complying with the court order, the city established temporary emergency accommodation for the group in Sunderland Ridge where they were also provided with basic rudimentary services,”

“It was established that the group was largely made up of foreign nationals from Lesotho who had formed a community of waste pickers at the site,” said Tau.

Tau said the six-month accommodation period ended on 6 June 2022 and the city has closed the temporary accommodation.

“Qualifying persons have been moved to permanent stands in The Orchards, north of Pretoria, while undocumented persons are now the responsibility of the Department of Home Affairs,” he added.
