The City of Tshwane has honoured 17 of its firefighters with bravery medals for selfless service and commitment to protecting residents by responding swiftly to emergencies.
This special event was held to command the deeds by Tshwane firefighters who helped to extinguish the Bank of Lisbon Building fire after answering a call to assist their colleagues in Johannesburg in 2018.
“I would like to thank our firefighters for being true professionals and for flying the Tshwane flag high. They have earned these bravery medals,” said Tshwane Mayor Randall Williams.
Williams said it is important that they show appreciation to the men and women in uniform from various disciples.
“They play a critical role in keeping our communities safe, be it through crime fighting, responding to emergencies, assisting the ill or putting out fires,” said Williams.
The City also used this occasion to showcase their newly received fleet of vehicles by the Emergency Services Department.
“A total of 10 efficient and modern vehicles have been acquired and will assist the City to respond to emergencies while protecting residents,” said Williams.
He said for the emergency services to do their job effectively, they require reliable equipment and vehicles so they can improve in their response times.
