The City of Tshwane has committed to deploying additional water tankers to serve communities affected by week-long water outages. This follows the breakdown of Palmiet pump station and our demand for adequate access to water for residents.
ActionSA Gauteng Provincial Campaigns Manager, Abel Tau says following the City’s abysmal handling of the water crisis and the suffering experienced by residents, ActionSA demanded that the City provide additional water services and also clearly communicate a plan for managing this crisis.
“While the City’s response to the water crisis has been markedly casual, this new development will be a welcome relief for residents,” said Tau.
Tau said residents have been forced into gatherings, with no social distancing, as they wait for water tankers that arrive at unpredictable times, and often, with not enough water.
“It is clear that the DA-led City of Tshwane does not care about its residents and has no real interest in getting the basics of service delivery right,” said Tau.
“As ActionSA, we will continue to monitor the roll-out of the water tankers and remains committed to fighting for residents’ rights.”
