Tshwane residents warned of possible disruptive rain

Tshwane emergency services department has warned residents in the northern and north-eastern parts of Pretoria to be on high alert for a possibility of disruptive rain.

Tshwane EMS department spokesperson Charles Mabaso said the disruptive rain is as a result of tropical cyclone Eloise.

“The disruptive rain is as a result of the tropical cyclone Eloise, which has left some people dead in Mozambique and caused damage to infrastructure while continuing to bring disruptive and damaging rain accompanied with damaging winds in various parts of the country,” said Mabaso.

The South Africa Weather Services had issued a level 10 warning for disruptive rains in parts of Gauteng and other neighbouring provinces.

“A level-10 warning indicates that the impact of the cyclone on the infrastructure, lives and livelihoods of people, animals and the environment was likely to be devastating,” said Mabaso.

Mabaso has called on residents in the city’s regions to be vigilant and on alert for possible flooding of susceptible roads and low-lying bridges which could make travelling difficult.

“The risk of trees being uprooted by the wind from the already wet ground in most places remains,” said Mabaso.

He said emergency services department remains on high alert. “The emergency services department together with the city remain on high alert to implement flood incident management plans as may be required.” said Mabaso.

Residents are urged to report fire or life-threatening emergencies on 107 or call 012 358 6300/6400
