Two gunmen escaped after killing cop in Pretoria East

Two suspects escaped after allegedly killing a police officer and injuring another at Boschkop, east of Pretoriaon Monday morning. The National Commissioner of Police, General Khehla Sitole has required the rapid capture of the two suspected shooters.

The two officers were on a routine patrol when they spotted a car without registration plates on the N4. The car was travelling in the vicinity of the N4 Highway near the Solomon Mahlangu on ramp. The National Police Spokesperson, Brigadier Vish Naidoo said both constables were subsequently shot and their firearms were taken.

“The members ordered the driver of the VW Polo to stop and thereafter approached the vehicle on foot. Two male suspects emerged from VW Polo and a scuffle ensued between the suspects and the two constables,”

“Both constables were subsequently shot and their firearms were taken. One constable died at the scene while the second member was taken to hospital with a gunshot wound to his leg,” Naidoo said.

Gauteng Provincial Commissioner has been mobilised a 72-hour activation plan to trace the suspects. Naidoo has also urged the public to assist with the information that can lead the suspects to be brought into books.

“We are appealing to anyone who may have any information on the whereabouts of these suspects to contact the police. Information may be communicated via the SAPS Crime Stop number 086 00 10111. All information will he treated with strictest confidence and callers may remain anonymous.” Naidoo said.
