Unpaid covid-19 contracts nurse’s salaries to be paid end of August

Acting MEC for Health Jacob Mamabolo assures that salaries for nurses who were appointed on Covid-19 contracts, would be processed by the end of August 2020.

This happens after surfaced reports of at least 80 Covid-19 contract nurses from Dr George Mukhari Academic Hospital, which had not been paid their July salaries.

“I have since directed the department of health to compile a consolidated report on Covid-19 human resource related issues from all facilities by the end of this week. I want to ensure that there is no any further inconvenience to health workers. The Gauteng Department of Health has appointed over 681 nurses during this financial year to augment its workforce, as part of Covid-19 response in the province”, he said.

Mamabolo expressed that a total of R500 million has been budgeted for contracting different categories of workers across all institutions, including all categories of nurses.

“It is unacceptable that workers are not paid. We cannot expect frontline workers to lead the fight against coronavirus, while on the other hand we are letting them down about their remuneration”, said Mamabolo.
