University of Cape Town student Uyinene Mrwetyana’s lifeless body was found in Khayelitsha after going missing for over a week. Mrwetyana was raped and murdered by a post office employee who was meant to assist her with a parcel she was delivering.
Mrwetyana had arrived, at the Clareinch post office, after 2pm and was told by the employee to return later. When she returned the suspect was alone and seized the opportunity to lock her in and begin assaulting her.
The 19-year-old film and media student was hacked with a scale and her blood was scattered all over the post office as well as the suspect’s car. He briefly appeared at the Wynberg Magistrate’s court on Monday where he faces charges of murder, rape and defeating the ends of justice.
His case will resume on 5 November 2019.
