Daniel Bhubezi Khumalo (34) is a largely self-taught artist who aims to bring life into upcoming local artists. Born and raised in Zimbabwe, Khumalo relocated to Winterveld, Pretoria to look for job opportunities in 2006. He sells splendid and vibrant paintings in Pretoria CBD.
“I want to advise coming artists that no matter how difficult is, never give up, push until you win. The time I decided to start doing art, some of my friends were laughing at me. But now they need help from me,” Khumalo said.
Khumalo began drawing in Grade 3, but found it difficult at first. He used to be a security guard before he was committed to his art.
“I began doing art when I was grade 3 but it was so difficult at first; I struggled with my drawings, but it gets better with time. I worked as a security guard before, but since 2017 I decided to be my own boss and dedicated my time to art,” Khumalo said.
He said he was inspired by his friend who also introduced him to use painting art.
“My friend Tino from Zimbabwe, was doing art and he introduced me to use paint because I was only using pencil at a time. He encouraged me to never looked back but use my talent. I’m thankful for the advice I got from him.”
“Since I began painting, clients started supporting my work in numbers. I’m happy with my work because I can get more clients and I believe one day I will be far. I’m here to help people to do art and am willing to accept help from those who are happy to help me.” Khumalo said.
