A Grade 6 learner from Mogobeng Primary School in Katlehong, East Rand, was caught in a crossfirebetween opposing members of a taxi association on Wednesday.
A man and his wife came to fetch their child from school, following a school trip. When they parked outside the school, they were attacked by a white Toyota Quantum occupied by a group of men who fired eight bullets at them which resulted in the man dying on the scene.
The grade 6 learner was hit by a stray bullet andsustained a serious wound. She was later rushed to Bertha Gxowa Hospital where she died on the way.

No arrests have been made so far and the SAPS don’t have any leads currently. MEC of Education Panyaza Lesufi visited both grieving families to convey his sincere condolences. “On behalf of the entire education fraternity in Gauteng, we would like to extend our deepest condolences to the family of the deceased learner and the grandfather of the Grade R learners. May they find comfort in knowing that we too share their loss.” said MEC Lesufi.
