Suspect nabbed for possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition

Police arrested a 28-year-old male, on Saturday, for possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition at Corner King and Plein Street at 12pm.

Police were busy with their routine crime prevention duties, on foot patrol, when they saw five suspicious males who ran in different directions upon spotting them.

“When they saw police they ran away in different directions. Police apprehended one suspect and recovered a firearm with live ammunition. Upon request the suspect failed to produce a license to possess a firearm”, said captain Mbele.

Captain Mbele concluded by mentioning that the firearm will be sent to ballistics testing to ascertain if it was used in the commission of serious and violent crimes. The investigation is currently underway and the suspect will be appearing today, 23 September, at the Johannesburg Magistrate Court.
