Three suspects were arrested on Tuesday evening for armed robbery and being in possession of an unlicensed firearm. The SAPS working alongside the JMPD arrested three individuals aged between 23 and 28, at Corner Commissioner and Troye Street around 11pm, after robbing a 25-year-old man.
According to Captain Xoli Mbense of the SAPS seven suspects approached the victim in the Johannesburg CBD and robbed him of his money and cellphone. “The victim was on his way home when he was confronted by the suspects who grabbed him by his t-shirt and searched his pockets. They took R400 cash and his cellphone before fleeing the scene and running in different directions”, explains Captain Mbele.
The victim spotted a police van and ran to alert the officers about what had transpired. Police gave chase and managed to apprehend three of the seven suspects, however, the victim’s cellphone and money were not recovered. A knife was found on one of the suspects and was confiscated.
The suspects appeared at the Johannesburg Magistrate Court on Thursday, 23 January.
