27 Business Studies candidates affected by Taxi Strike

A total of 27 matrics missed their business studies exam after a protest erupted in parts of Gauteng, which led to a disruption of transport. The protest, led by taxi associations, has affected taxis and bus commuters on Wednesday morning, forcing the education department to do necessary adjustments to accommodate those who missed the exam.

The Gauteng Education Department confirmed that 66 313 candidates that were scheduled to write Business Studies, they have recorded twenty seven (27) candidates who were affected by the TAXI Strike, among the 27, two managed to write their exam in Mpumalanga Province.

Accordingly, as per the granted concession, Schools allowed candidates who arrived an hour late, after the commencement of the examination to write. Meanwhile other candidates opted to approach alternative examination centres and as such they were also allowed to write.

We would like to extend our gratitude to the Mpumalanga Department of Education for accommodating our learners. Indeed we are also indebted to parents who arranged alternative transport for our candidates” Said MEC Lesufi.

“Overall we are satisfied on how this challenging situation was managed by our schools and officials under difficult conditions.”
