4 cops nabbed in connection with Mthokozisi Ntumba’s death

The Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID) has arrested four Police Officers from the Public Order Policing Unit in connection with the death of Mthokozisi Ntumba. This was confirmed by Ipid national spokesperson Ndileka Cola today.

“Ipid has just arrested four (4) police officers from the Public Order Policing Unit in connection with the death of Mthokozisi Ntumba.” Cola said.

Ntumba was shot dead, allegedly by police officers who opened fire with rubber bullets during a protest by Wits students in Braamfontein last week. Efforts to resuscitate him failed and he died at the scene. Meanwhile, his death has sent shockwaves across the country, with the public accusing the police of negligence.

Cola said the arrested suspects are set to appear at the Johannesburg Magistrate Court on Wednesday this week.

“The four officers will appear at the Johannesburg Magistrate Court on Wednesday the 17 March 2021 and they are facing charges of murder, 3X attempted murder and defeating the end of justice.” Cola said.
