Knife-wielding thugs rob victim of R9000

On Monday afternoon police arrested a 20-year-old male for armed robbery at corner Jeppe and Rissik Streets at approximately 2pm. It is alleged that the brother of a 30-year-old victim had withdrawn R9000 from an ATM before giving it to the said brother at Wanderers Street. The money was reportedly for funeral arrangements in Bloemfontein concerning their deceased sister.

SAPS Captain Xoli Mbele elaborates further, “While the victim was on his way to Bree taxi rank he was bumped by an individual at corner Bree and Rissik Streets. This individual started swearing at him before being joined by an accomplice who then threatened the victim with a knife.”

The suspects searched the victim’s pockets and took all the money before fleeing the scene. The victim was able to spot some police officers within the vicinity and quickly alerted them about what had transpired. The cops sought the suspects and the victim was able to identify one of them. Upon frisking the suspect they discovered a knife that was used in the commission of the crime.

“His accomplice is still at large with the money and an investigation is currently underway”, concluded Mbele. The suspect appeared at the Johannesburg Magistrate’s Court on Thursday 19 February.
