Toy gun robber jailed

Ever wondered if every gun flashed by a brazen criminal or maybe a wannabe criminal is actually real? Well it appears some criminals take advantage of the fear instilled in victims by the sight of what looks like a real pistol.

A driver of a blue VW Golf 6 was lucky to escape from the clutches of a wannabe criminal on Tuesday, 21 January after stopping at a traffic light. South African Police Services Captain Xoli Mbele told Gauteng News how the driver made a lucky escape when an individual approached his car intending to rob him.

“We arrested a 32-year-old male at Corner Bree and Simmonds Streets on Tuesday at 18:30 after spotting him brandishing a gun at a stationary car waiting at the traffic lights. The victim managed to speed off and the cops gave chase to the suspect who was later apprehended”, says Mbele.

The suspect was found in possession of a toy gun and the investigation is currently underway. Gauteng News will have more on the story as it develops.
