The Gauteng MEC for Community Safety, Faith Mazibuko, continued with the series of Safety Summits last weekend as part of the Safety Month programme of the Gauteng Province. MEC Mazibuko will use the Safety Summits to engage various communities in the province on safety issues affecting them.
The Summits are aimed at organizing and mobilizing communities in the fight against crime in their respective policing precincts. She intends to engage and encourage partnerships with all stakeholders with an interest on safety to develop area-specific and implementable action plans to deal with crime in the area. The Summits are expected to be attended by local community leadership, business community, experts within the policing sector, Faith Based Organisations leadership, Community Policing Forum and senior leadership of various Law Enforcement Agencies.
The MEC will also lead a march as part of a programme to reclaim the dignity and rights of women. “The march which is themed “Reclaiming the night”, is a community driven march, where women of all ages seek to stamp their authority and send a message that women have the right to walk the streets, at any time, without fear”, said MEC Mazibuko at the Safety Summit in Alexandra.
