80 year-old woman to own RDP house after waiting over 10 years

The Gauteng Department of Cogta and Human Settlements recently guaranteed 80 years old woman owning her RDP house, after waiting for over 10 years.

One of GPL Communications Unit Honourable Ezra Letsoalo said this happens after beneficiary submitted petitions to Gauteng Provincial Legislature’s Standing (GPLS) Committee, asking for their intervention.

“The beneficiary has been given three options of RDP developments to choose from. Another option is of being allocated a home from three developments. Different communities had been raising issues through petitions to different departments. The resolution of RDP house takes place during Standing Committee’s two days hearings on 29 and 30 March 2021, about addressed service delivery”, he added.

Letsoalo said Gauteng Department of Health is also committed to building a Community Health Centre for Vlakfontein community in Lenasia. 

“Vlakfontein community has been using interim structure of containers as a clinic. Health department will start working on processes starting from beginning of financial year on 1 April 2021. The issue has been referred to Portfolio Committee of Health in GPL, for oversight responsibility until releasing a building handover to community”, he said.

Letsoalo said Gauteng Department of Roads and Transport is also given two months to resolve violence issues on taxi industry .

“Petitioners in taxi industry want roads and transport departmentto minimise conflicts within the industry. The department committed itself to efficient functioning of regulatory entities, both at provincial and municipal level in Gauteng”, he added.

Letsoalo said a committee has to make follow-up meeting with relevant departments on 7 April 2021, presenting formal reports on their commitments, progress and outstanding matters from different petitions.
