Ackermans and Mr Price robbers busted

Police in conjunction with the JMPD arrested six suspects between the ages of 24 and 37 for business robbery, possession of unlicensed firearms and possession of stolen cell phones at Mr. Price, on corner Kerk and EloffStreet on Sunday the 27th of October 2019 at 09:30.

Five suspects allegedly robbed Ackermans Store, on corner Albertina Sisulu and Eloff Street. Three suspects are reported to have entered the shop pretending to be customers before drawing their guns and pointing them at cashiers, while taking an undisclosed amount of cash from the cash register as well as phones.

“They left the shop and went to Mr. Price store where they continued their acts of crime. They took an undisclosed amount of money and cell phones. Swift response by the police led to the arrest of the suspects where two unlicensed firearms were discovered with ammunition inside the shop.

“One of the suspects, a taxi driver, was arrested for possession of stolen cell phones that were recovered inside his white Quantum. The vehicle was also impounded”, said Captain Xoli Mbele.

An investigation is currently under way and the suspects appeared in the Johannesburg Magistrate Court on Tuesday.
