This past Saturday police arrested a 34-year-old male for murder and attempted murder at corner Von Wielligh and Cornelius Street in the Johannesburg CBD at 12pm
“Police rushed to a scene where a group of people were assaulting an unidentified male. Upon arrival they were told that the suspect had stabbed two males at a dilapidated building at corner Delvers and Cornelius Street earlier in the morning”, said Captain Xoli Mbele.
A 38-year-old male was later declared dead on arrival in hospital. He had been stabbed several times while the other male victim was admitted to hospital. The reason for the murder and attempted murder are not yet known.
The suspect is in hospital under police guard and will appear soon in the Johannesburg Magistrate Court.
Johannesburg Station Commander Brigadier Perumalurged the community to refrain from taking the law into their own hands because it is also a crime. This comes after the suspect was rescued by the police from an angry crowd that was demonstrating mob justice .
