Polo Vivo hijackers intercepted by police

On Tuesday evening, 28 January, police arrested two men aged 37 and 38 for being in possession of an unlicensed firearm, ammunition and a hijacked vehicle. The arrest occurred at corner Bree and Claims Streets at 20:30 while police were busy with their daily patrolling.

“The police had received a tip about a white VW Polo Vivo that was hijacked in Betrams and were on the lookout. They spotted the vehicle with the exact same description, at the above address, from the tip and proceeded to stop and search it”, says Captain Xoli Mbele of the SAPS.

The suspects were asked to exit the vehicle and police discovered a firearm without a serial number and live rounds. The investigation is currently underway and the suspects appeared at the Johannesburg Magistrate’s Court on Thursday, 30 January.
