Johannesburg – ActionSA Johannesburg has called for a nationwide review of South Africa’s justice system following a deadly shooting at the Booysens Magistrates’ Court that left two people dead and several others injured.
The party said the incident highlights serious security failures at judicial facilities, warning that violence inside courts undermines the rule of law and public trust. ActionSA stressed that courts should be safe spaces for justice, not targets for criminal activity
ActionSA Johannesburg Regional Chairperson Themba Mabunda urged the Minister of Justice to publicly account for security measures at magistrates’ courts across Gauteng, with particular focus on Booysens. The party is calling for concrete corrective actions, clear timelines and accountability for security lapses
ActionSA also called for stronger coordination between the Department of Justice and SAPS to protect court users, including in areas surrounding court buildings. The party extended condolences to the affected families and warned against normalising violence in judicial spaces.
