Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation, Prof. Blade Nzimande, will host a Science Outreach Programme at the South African Astronomical Observatory (NRF-SAAO) in Cape Town on Thursday, 12 February 2026, ahead of the 2026 State of the Nation Address (SONA).
President Cyril Ramaphosa will deliver SONA under the theme “A Nation that Works for All”, marking the start of the final five-year phase of the National Development Plan (NDP).
As part of government’s Back-to-School campaign and support for improving maths and science education, Minister Nzimande will engage learners from Fezeka High School (Gugulethu) and Siyabulela Primary School (Langa). Activities include a tour of the Visitor’s Centre and McClean Telescope, as well as a STEM careers exhibition aimed at inspiring young people — especially girls — to pursue science and technology fields.
