Johannesburg residents are facing tighter water-saving measures as the City ramps up efforts to stabilise supply and cut consumption.
Executive Mayor Cllr Dada Morero announced that the City has activated urgent water demand interventions, working with Johannesburg Water and Rand Water to prevent further strain on the system. 
The metro must reduce daily water use to 1 550 megalitres to meet licence requirements, with officials warning that although progress has been made, more savings are needed from residents and businesses. 
Night-time throttling, pressure management, leak crackdowns and bulk meter restrictions are already being rolled out across high-consumption areas. 
Meanwhile, areas including Melville, Westdene and Parktown West have experienced supply disruptions linked to infrastructure constraints, with water tankers deployed where needed. 
The City is urging residents to use water sparingly, report leaks and follow restrictions as it works to secure long-term water stability.
