JOHANNESBURG – 5 December 2025:
The Gauteng Provincial Government is mobilising communities, leaders and health partners as it prepares to mark World AIDS Day 2025. Premier Panyaza Lesufi will lead the provincial commemoration on Monday, 8 December 2025, at Turffontein Racecourse in Johannesburg.
This year’s theme — “Renewed efforts and sustainable commitments to end AIDS” — emphasises the province’s mission to reinforce HIV awareness, strengthen partnerships, and accelerate progress toward ending AIDS by 2030.
Province Intensifies HIV Awareness and Testing
In the lead-up to the event, MECs, Mayors and Members of Mayoral Committees have been hosting activities across all five Gauteng regions. These efforts aim to:
- Expand HIV education
- Promote testing and early detection
- Encourage treatment adherence
- Fight stigma and discrimination
World AIDS Day serves as a crucial moment for reflection, recommitment, and community mobilisation in the fight against HIV/AIDS. Gauteng continues to lead this work through its 1.1 Million ART “Close the Gap” Campaign, which focuses on ensuring that more residents begin and remain on treatment.

- The importance of consistent treatment
- HIV counselling and testing services
- Stigma-reduction initiatives
- Provincial support programmes available to residents
