Kerileng Ramoisa appeared at the Protea Magistrate court and was charged with the kidnaping an infant at the Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital.
It is allegedly that Ramoisa sold the infant for an amount of R2500.
Ramoisa will appear in court on June 21 with the possibility of a plea and bail application.
A family friend said that they were in pain upon hearing the news and asked themselves how an infant could disappear at the hospital when hospital staff is there.
She says she is happy that the accused is in custody. She went on to say she would let the law to take its course.
“I wish the accused gets punished for her deeds.”
She says the parents of the child could not make it to court because they are depressed and needed counseling.
She urged mothers who just gave birth to be extra careful in hospitals, because it still puzzles her how an infant would disappear when the hospital staff and securities are there.
William Hlatswayo, a grandfather to the child said that he is sad about what happened to his grandchild.
He said when he heard the story they could not even sleep and went on social media to share the news in an attempt to seek for help.
“This is my daughter’s 3rd child; she struggled giving birth and this why she had this child via operation and for.”
