Another 13 year old learner found dead

Another 13-year-old boy has been found dead in his school’s hostel swimming pool in Magaliesburg, Gauteng. The MEC of education Panyaza Lesufi paid a visit yesterday to the family of Keamohetswe Seboko in Eldorado Park.

MEC Lesufi expressed his disappointment in the school for not informing the department on the day of the tragic event. Keamohetswe drowned on Wednesday but the department was informed on Friday. Gauteng education spokesperson Steve Mabona said the Laerskool Bekkerpupil was found dead on Wednesday afternoon. This comes after the horrific news of Enoch Mpianzi, aParktown Boys’ High School learner, who went missing on a school camp orientation in Brits, North West.

According to Col Adele Myburgh, “the pupils were divided into groups and were given material to build their own rafts with which to go down the Crocodile River. Enoch was with a group of about 12 pupils on the homemade raft when it overturned. It seems the currents were quite strong, and the last time the boy was seen was when some of his friends saw the raft overturn and children falling into the water,” Myburgh said.

The department of education urged teachers and school principals to be cautious with school pupils as it’s their responsibility to have a watchful eye and make sure they are safe.
