Another suspect arrested for possession of ammunition and unlicensed firearm

A 39-year-old male suspect was arrested by police at Wanderers Taxi Rank, corner Noord and Wanderers Street, on Monday at 11am aboard a taxi to Durban.

Police were conducting their routine crime prevention duties, at the taxi rank, that required a ‘stop and search’ procedure when they encountered the suspect.

Captain Xoli Mbele explains, “Our officers searched passengers occupying a taxi to Durban when a revolver, with live rounds, was discovered on one of the passengers. The serial number of the firearm had been filed off.”

Mbele concluded by stating that the firearm would be sent to ballistics for testing and to ascertain if serious and violent crimes were committed with this particular firearm.

The suspect appeared at the Johannesburg Magistrate Court on Wednesday September 25th.
