Social development minister Lindiwe Zulu has confirmed the reopening of applications for the R350 special Covid-19 social relief of distress grant.
Briefing the media on Wednesday Zulu said the applications will be opened on Friday.
“The application channels for this grant will be opened from Friday, 06 August 2021 and we expect that the first payments to be made in the last week of August 2021.”
This as the previous grant allocation expired on 30 April 2021.
“This means that all those who had previously applied must re-apply again, in order to enable us to assess their eligibility as we did every month during the previous period,” says Zulu.
“The applications shall be considered from the month of application (Aug) and paid up to 31 March 22 provided the qualifying criteria continues to be met…”
The Department of Social Development advises applicants to submit applications through one of the available channels.
“Caregivers who are not receiving any grant for themselves will have to apply for themselves for special Covid-19 social relief of distress grant,” Zulu added.
“We would like to reiterate that only those who meet the criteria and have no financial support from any source should apply for this grant.”
