Arthur Mafokate allegedly stole R6 million

Arthur Mafokate who is a kwaito King is alleged to have stolen R6 million from his South Africa Arts and Development Association (Saada).

It is alleged that Mafokate used the money he stole from the Non-profit Organisation to buy himself a guesthouse in Midrand, Johannesburg.

According to the affidavit, dropped at Midrant police station by Mafokate’s former Manager Brian Mokoena, R6 million was left over from R9.5 million. The organisation received the money from the National Lottery Commission (NLC) in 2014. It was to unearth and develop talent across the country.

“Arthur’s ex-girlfriend Chomee and his son Arthur Mafokate Junior (AJ) were allegedly abusing the organisation’s vehicles by using them. They were using them as transport to go to their own shows. Another Arthur’s ex-girlfriend Cici is alleged to have not auditioned in Saada workshops. She was chosen because of being Mafokate’s target”, an affidavit stated.

A copy of affidavit was send to the department of trade, industry, and NLC for investigation. The money from NCL was transferred into Mafokate’s business accounts. This money was finally used to buy a guesthouse La Villa Rosa, for one of Arthur’s companies.

Mokoena added that cameras, printers, laptops and furniture bought by Saada were later used at the guesthouse.

“The chairperson approved and used NPO’s funds at his own will. Stuff was also hired without the board’s input. NLC should investigate Saada as it was run for the benefit of Arthur”, said Mokoena.

According to Mafokate, the company qualified to receive money as it was founded in 2011 and funding took place in 2014.

“The allegations are meant to tarnish my reputation, the NLC, my family and business. About how the money was used, Mr Mokoena and I compiled the records and submitted them to NLC. He tried to extort R1.5 million and threatened to reveal allegations about me. The allegations were made because I did not agree with him”, said Mafokate.

National Lottery Commission spokesperson Ndivhuwo Mafela said according to the records submitted, Saada was registered in March 2011 and was funded in 2014. He added that allegations of less than two years are unfolded.

“NLC received reports about the projects and was satisfied about its outcomes”, said Mafela.
