Centurion taxi rank to open soon in Pretoria

A 10 000m2 Centurion taxi rank worth R12 million based at corner South street and Hendrik Verwoerd drive, is to open soon in Pretoria.

Department of Roads and Transport MMC Dikeledi Selowa said it will accommodate 55 taxis. She said taxis will provide transportation services to more than 120 areas.

“Centurion Taxi Association already has keys to a rank and busy discussing working conditions with other associations. We are just monitoring moves they make as department. This is because taxi industry has a lot of issues so they should consider leadership and hierarchy”, she added.

Selowa said a rank construction project has been funded by Redefine Properties. She said the facility replaces an old taxi rank that was demolished in 2017.

“Taxis had to be moved at an open field and a rank is used by close to 15 000 residents daily. The rank will be managed by committee that involves Centurion mall, City of Tshwane as well as Centurion Taxi Association”, she added.

One of taxi rank committee member Paul Mokoena said there are certain documents they need to look into, regarding working conditions of a rank.

Ward councillor Peter Sutton said he would be happy to see road and transport department, security companies and law enforcement responsible for security of a rank.
