The City of Tshwane multidisciplinary Anti-land invasion Task team recently conducted two joint operations against land invasions in Pretoria West last week.
The teams demolished over 100 illegal structures during these joint operations.
Tshwane’s mayor Randall Williams said, “The first operationwas on Monday after the City responded to a court order to bring down illegally erected structures on City-owned land in Kalafong Heights near Atteridgeville.”
Williams said the offenders had been issued with numerous times, but failed to comply. “Subsequent to the receipt of a court order in this regard the city quickly dispatched the Tshwane Metro Police Land invasion Unit, the team acted swiftly to destroy about 20 illegal structures,” he said.
In a second incident on Wednesday, the City moved to take down illegal structures in Lotus Gardens, west of Pretoria. “Our teams moved in to demolish about 100 structures, many of which were incomplete which is an indicative of shack farming,” added Williams.
Williams said that the City has zero-tolerance approach towards illegal activity and it stands ready to demolish those structures.
“We would like to send a stern warning to land invaders that the City will continue to conduct these operations and approach the courts when necessary,”
