City opens Esselen Clinic in Hillbrow

The Department of Health and Social Development officially opened Esselen Clinic in Hillbrow Johannesburg.

Department’s MMC Mpho Phalatse said the clinic will cover residents from Hillbrow, the inner city, Parktown, Joubert Park, Braamfontein and Doornfontein.

“The clinic already provides preventative and curative health services including HIV, TB related treatment, care and support services. The clinic forms larger health precinct in and around Hillbrow. It contributes to Hillbrow Community Health Centre, South Rand Hospital and Charlotte Maxeke Academic Hospital for residents”, she said.

Phalatse added that this clinic has six nurses and its staff has been shortened.

“22 clinics now form part of our extended hours programme as many clinic staff and nurses avail themselves to worker overtime in order to make sure that patients receive medical attention that they need. This applies to both acute and chronic ailments”, said Phalatse.

She added that a sick nation is a hopeless an unproductive nation. World Health Organisation states that better health makes an important contribution to economic progress.

“None of us would be in public service if we did not believe that we could affect tangible change. Opening of a facility like Esselen Clinic encourages health and social development in putting good healthcare in Johannesburg. Although the clinic is small but it will play a crucial role on the lives of thousands residents in and out of Hillbrow”, she said.

Phalatse thanked every healthcare worker in the facilities for assisting in improving the delivery of quality healthcare across the city.
