The Unemployment Insurance Fund (UIF) has apologised for its failure to capture online temporary relief fund claims for May on Wednesday. The system was due to go live on Tuesday. This follows complaints from UIF beneficiaries.
The benefit scheme is expected to provide much needed relief to employees, who were unable to earn an income due to Covid-19. Meanwhile the UIF Commissioner Teboho Maruping apologised for the delay in capturing online temporary relief fund claims.
“We would like to apologise to all our stakeholders and particularly our clients for this unfortunate turn of events and the resultant delays. I would like to assure each and every one of those who have been negatively affected that this was beyond our control,” said Maruping.
Maruping said the fault was due to a damaged fibre link between the UIF offices and the State Information and Technology Agency’s data centre.
“The fault of connectivity in Pretoria is due to a damaged fibre cable that links the UIF to the SITA’s datacenter,” said Maruping.
He added and said that the UIF is currently working to fix the fault and will start processing the May applications as soon as the system is up.
“We are doing everything in our power to ensure that the problem is resolved today so that we can start processing May applications immediately,” said Maruping.
