Gauteng police have arrested eight suspects and recovered stolen goods worth R10m in a hijacked truck at Lynwood in Pretoria.This comes after intelligence-driven information led police into premises where a truck transporting soup and sinitizers were recovered on Tuesday afternoon.
It is alleged the truck was hijacked in Midrand last week. Captain Kay Makhubele told Gauteng Newspaper that the suspects were arrested upon the arrival of police at the premises.
“Upon arrival at the premises the eight suspects were arrested and some of the items which were in the truck was recovered,” said Makhubele.
Meanwhile, Trio and Drug Task Team followed up on information of a premises selling counterfeit goods and cigarettes in Erasmia at Tshwane District. Makhubele said that during the search police recovered sealed and opened boxes of cigarettes.
“Upon arrival, police found the owner who allowed them to search the premises. The owner was arrested; he will be charged with dealing in counterfeit goods,” said Makhubele.
Gauteng Provincial Commissioner Lieutenant General EliasMawela commended the work done by the Gauteng police. He urged the community to continue to work with the police.
He further made a stern warning to the perpetrators who take advantage of lockdown.
“Am making a strong warning to those who think that the normal day-to-day police operations are at the back burner due to lockdown to think again. Gauteng is not a place to hide in,” said Mawela.
Mawela said suspects are due to appear in the Pretoria Magistrate court soon.
