Gauteng Personality Stranded in Dubai Appeals for Urgent Government Assistance

A celebratory birthday trip combined with professional commitments has turned into a distressing ordeal for South African entertainer Eva Modika, who is currently stranded in Dubai amid escalating tensions in the Middle East.

In an official statement dated 28 February 2026, Modika confirmed that she had been booked in Dubai as a DJ and reality TV personality. However, due to the rising tensions between Iran and the United States, several parts of the Middle East — including areas within the UAE — have experienced disruptions affecting travel and events.

According to Modika, events she was scheduled to perform at have been suspended, and flights in and out of the region have reportedly been affected. As a result, she has suffered financial losses estimated at approximately R250 000.

The situation has left her appealing directly to the President of South Africa and the Department of International Relations and Cooperation (DIRCO) to urgently intervene and assist South African citizens currently affected in the region.

“We respectfully request guidance, support, and possible evacuation measures to ensure our safe return home,” she said in the statement.

The developments highlight the broader impact of geopolitical tensions on ordinary citizens, tourists, and professionals working abroad. South Africans travelling internationally are encouraged to remain in close contact with local embassies and monitor official government travel advisories.

Gauteng News will continue to monitor the situation and provide updates as more information becomes available.
