Students at Central Johannesburg College (CJC), Crown Mines in Diepkloof Soweto are up in arms protesting to proceed with the studies following the burglary where school equipment were stolen on 29 July.
CJC has information of the number plate of the white quantum that invaded the school premises but at this stage, the school is unable to provide the information as the investigation is still ongoing.
Students demanded the school to provide solutions for the burglary that took place, however, on Friday morning students received sms notification stating that they have to vacate the school premises including the residents.
CJC has not been having classes for 3 weeks now, and the college gave students an ultimatum to proceed with their studies without equipment or vacate the school premises.
Student leader Ntokozo Mohlala at CJC spoke to Gauteng news and said, “We had a meeting with the Campus Manager Mr. Sibeko who couldn’t provide answers us with solutions, he kept on saying he doesn’t know the way forward and why did the campus hire a private security company to attack us”.
On Wednesday, the Bravo Span 90 Security Company attacked students and 7 students were injured with one of them having an internal bleeding on the head.
The students together with the college staff are in solidarity to fight the school, but yesterday when the student representative together with the Campus Manger tried to contact Mr. Martins the deputy Principal of Academics; he told the campus manger to stay out of it.
“The campus manger contacted Mr. Martins for solutions but responded by saying Rr. Sibeko must stay out of it. He even gave a Zulu speaking person to translate what he said in Zulu”, said Loyiso Ralarala a student representative at CJC.
Students said that every semester the school equipment is being stolen and students end up falling behind their studies.
“We received messages this morning that we must vacate the school immediately and at 11 am security came to throw us out of campus. We are being violated by the school and we don’t know why we receiving aggressive treatment form the school. We are unable to proceed with our studies because we need the stolen equipment, it’s frustrating that every semester we facing the same problem”, said Ntokozo.
Gauteng news tried to get comment from Mr. Sibeko, Campus Manager but he said he has no authority to comment on this matter because it is under investigation.
“Mr. Shaun Martins is the one who hired the private security company and currently our canteen has been closed because they received an email that instructed them to close the kitchen. Currently students are hungry and our food is funded by NSFAS. Mr. Sibeko is the one who’s protecting Mr Martins and we are unable to see progress with the current situation”. However, Captain Billy said he couldn’t find the case of burglary that was reported by CJC.
