A delay could be expected in some schools in Tshwane on Monday. This is after a pupil tested positive for Covid-19 at Bronkhorstspruit. This was announced by Gauteng MEC for Education Panyaza Lesufi when he was checking the readiness of schools in the province on Thursday.
MEC Lesufi said parents of the child notified him of the problem on Wednesday. Meanwhile some of the schools in the province will not be able open on June 1.
“There will be areas that come back later on and not necessarily on the first of June depending on the circumstances. Generally, we’ve had no problems, we’re expecting everyone to come back, ” said Lesufi.
The education department had to make changes regarding the reopening of schools for Grades 7 and 12 on June 1.
“When they notified us, we said ‘let’s do changes before that community goes back to school. When children play in a community, they play with children from all other schools,” said Lesufi.
There were media reports that four teachers at separate schools in the Western Cape were infected with Covid-19 two days ago.
