Court grants bail to a girlfriend accused of killing her partner

The Pretoria North District Court grants a R3000 bail to Natasha Beyers (32) from Pretoria North, who is currently facing a charge of murdering a father to her 7-year-old son.

NPA North Gauteng Regional Spokesperson, Lumka Mahanjana says it is alleged that on 14 February 2022, the couple got into an argument over a cigarette, the deceased assaulted Beyers and she stabbed him with a knife.

“The deceased then locked Beyers in the house anddrove off. It is alleged that when he got to Fred Nicholson and Lambert Lee streets, he fainted, the car lost control and went off the road and hit the tree.

“At the time police arrive on the scene, the deceased had already been attended to by the paramedics, but already dead,” Mahanjana explains.

He mentioned that the police traced the home of the deceased, upon their arrival they found Beyers locked inside the house and informed them that the deceased had taken the key.

The police found the key inside the car and informed Beyers of the deceased passing.

“After inquiring about what happened, Beyers admitted to stabbing the deceased and pointed to the police where the incident took place and the weapon used, and Beyers was arrested on the scene,” Mahanjana adds.

Beyers attorney read out an affidavit in which she admitted to stabbing the deceased, however, she asked to be released on bail, but Prosecutor Nkhangweleni Phanuel Mudavhi told the court that the state had a strong case against the accused and she has two previous convictions of theft and perjury so they wish the bail can be denied.

“Magistrate said the honours were on the accused to prove to the court, that it was in the best interest of justice that she be released on bail.

“The court, therefore, found that the accused was not s flight risk and it was unlikely that she would evade trial and bail was granted and the matter was postponed to 24 March 2022 for further investigations,” Mahanjana said.
