An attached crime intelligence unit Police, Constable Ntobeko Nhlanhla Langa, has been shot dead after being followed by three men driving in a white sedan in Soweto, Johannesburg.

National police spokesperson Brigadier Naidoo said Langa has been attached to the unit since 2011, in Soweto East.

“The deceased was to give evidence in a case at the Randfontein magistrate’s court. Three men in a white sedan followed him. When Langa stopped his car, one of the suspects opened a fire on him and he died instantly”, said Naidoo.

He added that in a separate incident, a police officer was shot and wounded while conducting crime prevention duties in Atteridgeville, Pretoria.

“The victim was part of the unit that was doing stop and seatrch for suspects who had allegedly been committing robberies in the surrounding areas. During the search, the team came across a vehicle and ordered the suspect to step out of the vehicle, he started to shoot. His bullets were directed to the unit members and Constable Tumelo Raphael Mohlala got shot and wounded”, said Naidoo
