City of Joburg’s Jabuvu Customer Centre was attacked in the early hours of Friday.
Department of Finance MMC Funzela Ngobeni said tyre and two petrol bombs were thrown into the centre.
“They failed to explode but minimal damage was caused inside one of the offices. This is the strongest terms and the City will ensure that those responsible face full might of law. No employees and residents got injured as result of bombing. Measures are put in place to ensure that there is business continuity at the centre”, said Ngobeni.
The centre’s management said the incident took place last night following a series of Eskom-related outages in the area.
“The community have every right to be aggrieved about poor service delivery by national electricity provider. Actions like that are unjustified as they impact community and prevent access to basic municipal services. The City has dispatched additional security including JMPD, in and around the centre”, he said.
Ngobeni added that a case of property damage has been opened at Moroka Police Station.
