Department of Community Saftey MEC Nkosi-Malobane briefing the media on outcomes of an engagement session with young women in the entertainment sector

The industry has had incidents of gender based violence with the latest one being that of musician Bongekile Simelane popularly known as “Babes Wodumo” by her boyfriend Mandla “Mampintsha” Maphumulo.

 

The incident has sparked public outrage on the extent of the scourge of gender based violence in the country particularly within the entertainment and the professional sectors. In Gauteng alone 39552 cases of assault with an intent to inflict grievous bodily harm were reported, 43587 were common assault and 10116 sexual offences were reported in 2018.
