Department of Roads and Transport give safe travels to commuters in Gauteng

In Gauteng, the Department of Roads and Transport has called public transport operators to make sure commuters still follow the Covid-19 regulations in order to curb the spread of the virus.

With the introduction of level 3 regulations, the public transport sector urges to observe Covid-19 measures as the mobility will be increased.

On Monday, The MEC for Public Transport and Roads Infrastructure Jacob Mamabolo said, “We plead with public transport operators not to let their guard down continue enforcing Covid-19 regulations in their facilities.”

Mamabolo stated that throughout the lockdown periods, the Department has monitored nodes of public transport and encouraging commuters and drivers to comply with the Covid-19 regulations.

“Through our #SmartMobilityWeekends program, the department has been inspecting taxi ranks and intermodal facilities, especially the sanitation of commuters,” he added.

Mamabolo urged residents to continue respecting the Covid-19 protocols and also register for vaccination.
