The Democratic Alliance (DA) says former social development minister Bathabile Dlamini had many opportunities to report alleged dealings between certain wives of African National Congress members and social grant distributor and contractor Cash Paymaster Services.
In her resignation letter, Dlamini reportedly said those who made a profit through CPS through their wives are known but because they are well respected by the organisation, nothing has been said to them.
The DA’s Shadow Minister of Social Development Bridget Masango says the party previously made attempts to get to the bottom of the CPS and Sassa debacle as they believed something was amiss.
There have been many opportunities where the minister should have said leave me alone, here are the people benefiting from this and then we would have known where to go.
“We are on record as the DA saying that we suspect that there is a relationship that is not a good one between the minister and CPS because of her insistence on keeping CPS to pay the grants and we want to get to the bottom of that.”
“We want the minister to be the one that comes out to say, I am not the one that has an unsavory relationship with CPS, so we can get to the bottom of this,” Masango added.
Masango says Dlamini is compelled by Section 34 of the Prevention and Combating of Corrupt Activities Act to report the matter to police.
If she does not do that on her own, we will then have to lay charges against her for contravening the very act.
