Economic Development donates vegetable packages to needy people

The City of Joburg’s Department of Economic Development hasdonated vegetable packages consisting of carrots, potatoes, spinach, butternut and cabbage to needy familieson Friday, in Ivory Park Tembisa.

Economic Development MMC Lawrence Khoza said they also considered elderly people and people with disabilities when giving away vegetables.

“The giving away was held under Social Development programme and will not end in Ivory Park only. We want to assist as many families as possible as the department is aware that Covid-19 affected many people. People have lost jobs and there is no means of income”, he said.

Khoza said the City’s budget for social development was recently increased to R18,1 million.

“We will use the money to assist families who are suffering and those who were affected by Covid-19. It is our duty as department to assist needy people”, he added.
