Gauteng administers over 3 Million vaccines

With the vaccination roll out programme now in full swing, the Gauteng province has this past week reached yet another milestone. The province went over 3 million vaccines administered and saw a new record of 75 683 inoculations on a single day on Friday, 27 August 2021.

The milestone comes as the provincial government’s vaccination rollout programme continues to expand through innovative partnerships with civil society, faith-based organisations, media and private sector.

Gauteng Health MEC Nomathemba Mokgethi says additional sites are being opened and more sites operate during weekends for the convenience of those who are at work during weekdays.

“By Saturday night 3 056 869 vaccines were administered in Gauteng and 1 310 372 people are fully vaccinated,” said Mokgethi.

Mokgethi said while the provincial government welcomes the positive developments and the tirelessly work by vaccination teams across the province to ensure that the roll out programme is successfully implemented, there is still a long way to go to get the jab into many arms as possible.

“These joint efforts between government and various partners are bearing fruits, however, we still need to move with speed to vaccinate as many people as possible ahead of the anticipated fourth wave of COVID-19,” she said.

In the last seven days, there has been a slight decrease in COVID-19 new cases nationally, with Gauteng seeing a consistent decrease in the number of infections.
