The Gauteng Department of Health officially opened the state-of-the-art Dewagensdrift Clinic in Cullinan on Monday (29 April), in the Tshwane health district. This new facility replaces existing temporary facility in Dewagensdrift and its anticipated service area is 12 300 patients per year.
The services to be provided in the new Clinic will enable the facility to offer primary health care package for twelve hours with the capacity to extend the service to 24 hours of operations.
“On Sunday we confirmed that the Recovery Plan of the Gauteng Department of Health that begun in 2017/18 remains on track as we announced the filling of another 2000 critical posts with the additional R778 million available in this current year. Hence we’ll ensure that this facility is also accommodated in this regard and get relevant clinical and support personnel to service residents of its catchment area”, said MEC Ramokgopa.
Health care services offered at the facility include Dental Services, Optometry, Medico Legal, X Ray, Social & Psychiatric Services, and 24 hours Emergency Services -which is still going to be implemented.
The more than R70 Million, which is energy efficient with adequate natural lighting is situated along the notorious Moloto Road (R573) from Pretoria to Nkangala and it’s best placed to handle emergency cases emanating from the motor vehicle accidents on this road.
“The community was excited and welcomed the evolution of services from a Mobile Clinic under a tree, to a ‘Shack’ temporary structure, and now to this state-of-the-art modern facility”, added Dr Ramokgopa.
Hence, in addition, the Department is planning to build an Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Base next to the facility on Portion 79 of Farm 417 JR Dewagensdrift in Cullinan, Region 5 of Tshwane Metropolitan Municipality.
