On Tuesday, 30 April, Member of the Mayoral Committee (MMC) for Environment and Waste Management Services Cllr Ndosi Shongwe will officially handover three state-of-the-art community parks to Actonville residents. The beautification of the Actonville area in Benoni was done at a combined amount of over R3 Million.
Addressing the Actonville community Ekurhuleni Mayor Cllr Mzwandile Masina said Actonville is the only ward in Ekurhuleni to have 4 state-of-the-art parks handed over in one financial year.
Masina continued to say ‘”Let’s maintain and protect these facilities. Be a human shield during protests because these parks have been built for the Actonville community”
The parks will be located at Actonville Park, It is situated at Ghandi Street and has amenities such as the central plaza, bicycle track, sandpit, play wall, outdoor gym equipment, and play equipment, parking and fencing.
Delair Street Park has received an upgrade with the installation of gym equipment and painting of play equipment, while Darling Street Park ,Upgrades included installation of steel palisade fencing, sandpit, paving, installation of picnic sets and benches, concrete litter bins, outdoor gym equipment with rubberizing on the floor and the repair works of play equipment.
Some residents appreciate the parks though some argue parks were a waste of funds, one of the residents known as Solomon has been living in Actonville for thirteen years said that there are not enough libraries in Ekurhuleni, instead of parks why not build libraries.
