Gauteng Law enforcement agencies on high alert for amidst threats of national shutdown

The Gauteng Provincial Government wishes to assure the people of Gauteng that law enforcement agencies are on high alert to ensure the safety and security of the public amidst threats of a national shutdown today, 23 August 2021.

Major General Mathapelo Peters from the SAPS National Head Office said the NATJOINTS is aware of the inflammatory messages advocating for violence and they are not taking the threats light.

Premier David Makhura urges the people of Gauteng to abide by the law and report any suspicious activity to the police.

“I call on people of Gauteng to work with the police and Community Policing Forum to ensure that no acts of violence and criminality see the light of the day in our communities,” Makhura said.

He emphasised that the law enforcement agencies stand ready to defend institutions of democracy and protect economic infrastructure.
